It's what I am.
Advent Calendar - 17 - Christmas With The Springfields
Dusty and Tom/Dion and Tim trot out a quartet of Christmas faves in their own inimitable way - warm and sweet and fun and sometimes jaunty, the way Christmas (and therefore a Christmas EP) should be.
It opens with their version of The Twelve Days of Christmas and just to thow a spanner in the works beyond the maids-a-milking we get dogs-a-barking and cats-a-mewing - what chance do I have!
Next up Mary’s Boy child with its gentle calypso feel, and with the peculiar West Indian accents that the song so often has - although not as obviously as Nina and Fredrik’s version.
Away in a Manger is sweet enough but perhaps a little … routine, but frankly it’s not a song worthy of trying. being one of the dullest of all Christmas songs.
We Wish You A Merry Christmas however has all the fun you’d want. It ends with the sentiment “why can’t we have Christmas the whole year round?”
- The Twelve Days of Christmas (Didn’t chart, 1962)
